The Class Action Lawsuit Against GlaxoSmithKline

A person in New York is filing a metformin class action lawsuit suing Ascend Labs, a health care provider, for exposing him to a carcinogenic chemical called NDMA (and metformin). He says that he was exposed to this carcinogenic chemical during the time he was receiving chemotherapy at the New York City Memorial Hospital. The suit is seeking compensatory and punitive damages for all those who took metformin, which was contaminated with the carcinogenic chemical metformin-or, more accurately, N-nitro-methane. This chemical is manufactured by several companies including Ascend, Inc. and United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA has not approved metformin as of yet and many are concerned about the long-term effects of taking metformin, especially for children.

Metformin Class Action Lawsuit

According to the plaintiffs in the metformin class action lawsuit, the defendants knew that an extremely high percentage of individuals taking this type of medication would develop leukemia or die soon after completing the course. Additionally, the defendants knew that the prevalence of these deaths could be mitigated by including an extra therapeutic component to the drugs such as an anti-oxidant. Yet, despite these concerns, the defendants included an anti-oxidant with metformin products such as cough syrup and vitamin B6. This compound increased the frequency of leukemia in these individuals. When this compound was combined with an antibiotic, the probability of death from all causes increased even more.

Many of the plaintiffs in the metformin class action lawsuit say they have been diagnosed with cancer more than ten years ago.

When the lawsuit was filed, the defendant’s drug store did not warn the plaintiffs of the potential side effects that come with taking this type of medication. Also, when the drug was originally sold, it was sold as “toxic”. There were no warning labels available to indicate that this compound can cause cancer, heart problems, high blood pressure, or other diseases that have the potential to be deadly. As you can see, this is a rather blatant case of fraud.

The defendant’s attorney filed a brief to the court claiming that there is no evidence that the plaintiffs filed any complaints related to the development of cancer or other life-threatening diseases.

They also claimed that the plaintiffs were only linked to ndma-contaminated metformin through genetic factors and that there is no evidence that taking the chemical metformin caused any serious ailments. However, the plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit filed their lawsuit claiming that they developed cancer, which is far worse. Since this class action lawsuit was filed, there has been additional attention paid to the effects of long-term exposure to ndma-contaminated chemicals.

The FDA conducted its own investigation, and the agency found both strong evidence and reliable testimony that the plaintiffs in the metformin class action lawsuit filed were indeed exposed to a very dangerous chemical.

In June 2021, the FDA announced a plan to dramatically reduce the amounts that companies are allowed to sell metformin to consumers, and to require that they use safer chemicals to manufacture their drugs. If the FDA implements these plans fully, there will be an end to the use of dangerous metformin compounds by pharmaceutical companies. Unfortunately, the current plan does not include a plan for regulating the amounts that companies can sell to consumers.

The FDA has also issued a warning about long-term use of the commonly prescribed and abused anti-diabetic drug, n-nitrosodentum.

This drug was also found in a number of cases of patients who had metformin-contaminated colas. The warning warned that, “N-Nitrosodentum may cause severe liver damage and possible organ failure.” This same warning was also issued about the use of metformin to treat patients with cirrhosis and other serious diseases. While the Class Action lawsuit filed on behalf of the plaintiffs in the case was ultimately found to be justified, the plaintiffs lost their case and will not be able to obtain compensation from the large pharmaceutical companies.
